Battlefield

Blood, guts, bodies galore
chopped and beheaded,
hung and much more.
Axes, knives, swords and pikes
are weapons to kill with,
But pistols and rifles are what others like.
Dope, money, liquor and sex
all cause battles
that have us thinking, "What next?"
Kid sin gangs: living  on streets,
pleading for money
and a place to sleep.
Black, red, and even white,
are all fought over:
the basis of most fights.
Armor of mail or armor of steel,
which is the strongest
that may prevent a last meal?
A shot from an arrow,
a bullet from a gun;
hitting a bystander makes us realize:
Battle is not fun.
A pool of blood soaking the ground
dripping slowly from a wound
but making no sound.
A cry escaping from a broken heart,
wondering why this had to happen;
why it even had to start.
Battle of Shiloh, Battle of Bull Run,
many were killed
never again to see the sun.
"History repeats itself," is what's said.
So let's re-create the good;
not face the fay with dread.
